Matt & The Boatside Team

Meet Matt

Landlord Matt Cawood has lived in the Tyne Valley since 2000 and grew up in Newcastle before studying German at Portsmouth. After several years in the hospitality trade in Germany, he returned to the UK in the late 1990’s and embarked on a career in sales and recruitment within the pharmaceutical and logistics sectors before taking the plunge and fulfilling his dream of taking over a country inn.

Having been a resident of Warden for a number of years, he knew the Boatside well and decided that life behind the bar was right up his street.

A long distance runner and sometimes triathlete, he has a vast array of Dad jokes and is also a massive fan of German beer and food, so look out for some themed menu items from time to time

Matt and partner Anna look forward welcoming you to the Boatside soon

Stayed at the end of May and from getting there nothing was too much trouble. The chalet was clean and bright with plenty of room. and the breakfast was very good as was the food in the evening. Will visit again

Met friends here for lunch. Starters were a bit pricey, but excellently cooked, and the mains were superb.
Lovely atmosphere and a young team who were efficient, friendly and attentive. Pub was warm and clean and, always a test of good management, the toilets were spotless.
Will be back to this dog friendly pub.
