The Boatside Inn is situated in the heart of the Tyne Valley and whatever the time of year, whatever the weather, there is always something to do or something new to discover across this beautiful region. Rich in history and with some stunning scenery, you have castles, coastlines, countryside as well as city centres to discover and enjoy

Hadrian’s Wall Country is a joy for anyone who enjoys walking in the fresh air. Alternatively, if you prefer some retail therapy, we are less than 30 minutes from the Metro Centre as well as Newcastle upon Tyne. The Northumberland coastline has a wealth of wonders of discover, including beautiful beaches, castles, sea fishing, golf courses as well as bird spotting trips

Alnwick Castle

The second largest inhabited castle in the UK, Alnwick Castle offers a full day out for all the family. Used as a backdrop for the Harry Potter films, the gardens are full of adventure and beauty.

The castle is open throughout the year and hosts some major events including family activities, outdoor concerts as well as sporting and historical re-enactments

Hadrians Wall

A world Heritage site, Hardian’s Wall attracts visitors from across the globe who are keen to discover more about the rich and fascinating history of this Roman site. There are several historical sites along the wall and from the Boatside Inn, you can quickly be at the wonderfully laid out Chesters Roman Fort or the spectacular Vindolands site, where there are live digs each day and new artifacts being discovered and displayed each week.
